Trustee Vacancies
Are you looking to put your experience, knowledge and skills to use in a challenging and exciting charitable environment? Then why not consider becoming a trustee of Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust.
Message from the Chair of PNBPT
As Chair of the Trust, I am proud to be part of a charity that has led the conservation and regeneration of the historic naval dockyard in Portsmouth since the mid-1980s, and more recently the continuing re-development of the Priddy’s Hard site in Gosport. Our overarching aims are to preserve, restore and reinvigorate buildings, spaces and boats that are of key naval historical significance, so that these can be experienced, enjoyed and inhabited by the visiting public and our tenants.
The full potential of these two sites has yet to be realised, both as world centres of maritime heritage, and as hubs of economic activity, capable of sustaining themselves whilst making a valuable contribution to the economies of Portsmouth and Gosport and the broader south coast region.
We are looking to recruit up to four new Trustees with skills and experience that complement the nature of the Trust’s charitable purposes. This is an opportunity to play a valuable role in leading and contributing to the long-term preservation, development and sustainability of these unique naval heritage sites and assets under the Trust’s care. If you are excited by this prospect, we very much hope to hear from you.
David Butters
Chair of Board of Trustees
Summary of the role
Trustees have responsibility for overseeing the direction and performance of the Trust. They are guardians of the charity’s assets and are responsible for their use and security. Trustees are also responsible for the governance of the Trust and ensuring we meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
We have a skills-based board, with trustees having one or more identified skills, which are relevant to the nature of the charity and its key areas of operation. We are particularly looking for the following skills and experience, though encourage anyone who is interested to apply:
- A wide experience and a special interest in the architecture of heritage buildings and their associated spaces
- Construction experience (ideally within the heritage sector), including project management building surveying and sustainability.
- Knowledge, experience and connections in the marine sector and in the conservation, repair and maintenance of boats.
- Experience in the visitor attraction sector (including visitor experience, on-site catering, retail, and ideally interpretation of heritage assets).
- Financial management (preferably at Finance Director level) with connections to individual and corporate funders.
- Residents of Gosport with experience of the local commercial/political landscapes.
Our trustees receive annual remuneration of £1,000 plus reasonable expenses.
We particularly welcome applications from individuals from a range of backgrounds and experiences as part of our commitment to broaden the capacity and diversity of our board. Previous experience as a trustee is not necessary.
