Built during the period of rearmament prior to World War 2, the building was specifically designed to house an exhibition about Admiral Lord Nelson and HMS Victory. The latter had been on display to the public in No 2 Dock since 1922. The entire copper roof was badly damaged in the severe storms of 1988 and was replaced by the Trust as part of a large programme of storm-damage works. |
