Historic Boat Volunteers
Volunteer at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust has a team of volunteers who help maintain the collection of historic boats. They are based in Boathouse 4 which is open to the public and free to enter.
Their work programme is managed by the Trust’s Director of Marine Operations and the Volunteer Coordinator. In addition to restoring and maintaining the Trust's fleet of boats, our volunteers interact with visitors, act as tour guides and crew our operational boats.
Some of the vessels being restored and maintained by our volunteers include the Green Parrot, formerly the barge of the Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command; Cyclops – a 42 ft rowing boat built in 1916 as launch to the World War 1 battleship Royal Sovereign and we are about to start on a LIBOR funded project to build a CMB4-Motor Torpedo Boat.
